On a Thursday night, like last night (15 years ago), I was a Freshman at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State). It was the 1st week of classes, and I was already lonely. I walked into an auditorium in Hill Hall for a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting, just to meet people. And that is where Jesus met me and greeted me with arms wide open. I learned He wasn't just another person in history. I learned He was God's only Son and Savior of the world. I was broken and burdened by my past relationships, and when I learned that what He did on the cross was for me and all my sins, as well as everyone else's...it was literally "good news." It was the best thing I had ever heard. I became a believer and a follower of Jesus, and it was the best choice I've ever made. My life is far from perfect, but I have a Savior that loves me deeply and a peace that I can not fully explain. If you are reading this and do not know Jesus in this way, know that He is here for you. Right now. Our sin is what separates us from a relationship with God. Faith in Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection is what reconciles us to Him. It is a choice freely given to us. Not a choice made for us by our parents, teachers, significant others, or anyone else. He already knows you and loves you. My prayer is that you would choose to accept His love and His Son, and love Him too.

Freshmen were all over the UNC campus today. They were buying textbooks, finding classrooms, and eating in the dining halls. As students walked by various cafeterias and crosswalks, Cru staff and students were there to ask,"Do you gotta minute?" We may not phrase it exactly like that though. ;) The "Gotta Minute Survey" is a tool we use on campus to learn a lot about where someone is spiritually. Over 600 students (mostly freshmen) completed the survey! We will continue to ask students to take the survey tomorrow and again at a Cru table for the Student Involvement Fair. We know God is at work, and we trust that his love for each student and desire for them to know Him is so much deeper than ours. It is our prayer that we would see life change happen at UNC and that students would truly follow Jesus and experience His love. We also pray they would get connected to Cru and to a local church. Thank you for your prayers for our ministry! Our staff team has had meetings with lots of prayer and planning already. This week, Brett was gone for the student leaders' retreat and he got back yesterday. Today, this awesome group of Cru staff and students are helping freshmen move into the dorms at UNC! Please pray for our ministry the next several days. The days will include lots of surveys with freshmen, lots of fun events, and lots of opportunities to share the gospel, including during the weekly meeting. Thank you! |
