I (Brett) invited myself to go to church with JP last week. It was the perfect opportunity since our church wasn’t having a Sunday morning service. JP was happy to have me attend his Unitarian Universalist church with him. Another guy in CRU named Aaron joined us as well. The guest speaker for the day basically shared his life’s journey to discover if God exists and if so, what kind of God he is. The speaker did a great job of sharing points in his life when he experienced the presence of God, but was unwilling to recognize that presence as God for some reason or other. Since his parents were also Unitarian Universalists they would not try to convince him that God exists or does not exist. By the end of his talk I lost track of whether or not he did believe that God exists, but the point of the talk was that you need to find out what you believe on your own, and whatever you do believe is good for you.
As I processed what was being said while we were there I felt so thankful that we do not have to sit and wonder if God exists, or if we can know him and worship him. The Bible spells it out so clearly and gives us the Truth that we long for. After church we were able to talk about spiritual things with JP and some of the other members of the church. It was a rather intimidating experience, but a really great opportunity to spend some time with JP learning what he believes. I look forward to the next opportunity I have to spend some time with JP, and pray that God will give me the words to say that will open JP’s eyes to see the danger of having no real Truth to look to.
